Who we are

Minnesota Parents and Community Coalition for Childcare

Our Mission: We are the Parents and Community Coalition for Childcare. We’re a group of parents and community members from the metro area, committed to making early childhood education accessible, affordable, and high-quality in Minnesota. We’re advocating for young children by driving immediate legislative action and building a long-term plan to invest in high-quality childcare while supporting our providers and teachers.

We are creating simple opt-in actions for parents, providers, and community members who want to be involved

Our advocacy is focused on three pillars:

  • Better Pay + Support for Child Care Teachers and Caregivers

  • Affordable Child Care for All Families

  • High-Quality Child Care that Supports Children’s Development.

Why We Joined

Real parents sharing why this work matters to our families

Our family is new to Minnesota and doesn’t have family or close friends nearby, so like many transplants, we’ve had to build our village from scratch. For us, our toddler’s childcare center became that village and a place of support, connection, and community when we needed it most. I was first introduced to this group through a letter‑writing campaign at my kiddo’s childcare center. What stood out right away was how approachable it felt to learn about the issues and take small steps to make an impact.

With both myself and my spouse working full-time, time is always limited. But this issue matters. Our early childhood educators are highly skilled professionals who care for our kids during their most important years, yet they are paid far too little. At the same time, families are already stretched as far as we can go. The math isn’t mathing. This system is failing both families and providers. And that’s exactly why our voices as parents, partnered with our amazing providers, are so important.

I have been so energized in joining this work. We all know the reality- childcare is a huge financial burden for families. For early childhood educators, they are not being paid nearly enough in doing the critical work of raising the next generation of children. We don't have much extended family close to us - our schools and daycares are our extended family. My children have gained so much from their education - important socialization, problem solving skills, starting to learn to read and becoming comfortable in a classroom environment. And teachers deserve the credit and the pay for this hard work. I want to see all Minnesota families able to make the choice that is right for them and this group is the start of that.

I feel such a sense of purpose and action in this work. I am proud to be learning more about our political and legislative systems than ever before. If you are looking to get involved and make a difference for all Minnesotans, this is the place to start!
